Candle Care Tips and Tricks

Updated: Jan 29

After several years of making soy wax candles, I have learned many tips and tricks that I now want to share with you so that you can fully enjoy and maintain our candles at their best potential.

Let the candle burn before extinguishing it:

When lighting a candle for the first time, you should let it burn until the melted wax reaches the sides of the container. The first burn is the most important because if the wax is not completely melted, a wax tunnel will form over time.

To fix a wax tunnel, you can use aluminum foil to create a dome over your container, leaving a small hole at the top. This will create an environment where the temperature helps melt the wax evenly.

You can also take a spoon and use the poorly melted wax in your wax warmer.

Trim the wick before relighting the candle:

Before relighting a candle, make sure to trim the wick to remove the bulb at the end. This bulb can cause black smoke, stain the container, or fall into the wax, which could later transfer to the skin if the wax is used as a massage oil.

My technique for removing the bulb is simply to use a small piece of tissue and gently pinch the end of the wick. The bulb will stay in the tissue, and you can just throw away the burnt part of the wick and reuse the tissue for the next lighting.

You can also buy a wick trimmer if you want to make the task easier.

Using our candles as massage oil:

Please note that we use fragrance oils in our candles, so if you have sensitive skin to scents or if you have photosensitive skin, we recommend choosing an unscented candle.

To use our soy candles as massage oil, you should first light the candle and wait until the wax is evenly melted. Once the wax is melted, extinguish the candle and wait a few minutes for the wax to cool slightly. Pour the wax directly into your hands and apply it to the area you wish to massage.

  • We strongly advise against using the wax on your face or sensitive areas.
